Tyler Perry responded to Will Smith’s “slap” at the Oscars by saying, “It was wrong.”

Three months have passed since the Academy Awards, but stars—including Tyler Perry, who is acquainted with both comedians—are still talking about how Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Due to Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia diagnosis, Rock made fun of her baldness during the 2022 Oscars. Before getting a slap from Smith on stage, Rock gave the best documentary award.
Perry and Smith were seen chatting in the Dolby Theatre right after the incident. Earlier this week, during the Tribeca Festival in New York City, Perry discussed that discussion with Gayle King.
According to Entertainment Tonight and Variety, Perry stated, “I left early to go and check on Chris because it was wrong in no uncertain terms.” “I made sure to tell Will that, and when we approached him, he was inconsolable. He was unable to believe what had occurred. Photos from the awards ceremony show Perry and Smith chatting. King questioned the director on Tuesday during his speech to see if he was comforting Smith. There is a distinction between consoling and defusing tension, according to Perry. “It’s been really hard being friends with both of them,” she said.
Since the Academy Awards Slap event, a number of hosts and actors have remarked on it, including Wanda Sykes who called it filthy and Amy Schumer who claims the incident scared her. Smith apologised for his actions and said they were wrong and reprehensible the day following Oscar night.
Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the subject for the first time on the June 1 Red Table Talk show.
“I sincerely hope that these two educated, capable guys will have the chance to get over their differences, speak things out, and make amends. We truly need them both and one another more than ever given the current state of the globe, she added throughout the show.

Till then, she continued, “Will and I are doing what we’ve been doing for the last 28 years, which is to keep figuring out this thing called life together.

Smith did win best actor that night for his performance in King Richard, but the Academy Award’s Board of Governors prohibited Smith from attending Academy functions for the following ten years, including the Oscars.
