Will Ferrell has agreed to join Margot Robbie in Barbie, Warner Bros.’ all-star retelling of the Mattel toy classic, which is set to open in theatres on March 31.
A long list of actors and actresses were considered for the role of the fashion-forward doll, with Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon and Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey and America Ferrera among those who were considered.
The script for the movie was written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, with Gerwig directing the film. The manufacturing process has already begun.
Despite the fact that the plot specifics are being kept under wraps at a Malibu dream house, sources have indicated that the proceedings will have a metaphysical element to them. Apparently, Ferrell will be portraying the CEO of a toy corporation that might or could not be Mattel.
In addition to performing, Robbie is also producing the picture through her LuckyChap imprint, which she is co-producing with LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley. Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films and Paddington producer David Heyman are also involved in the production.
Barbie will be Ferrell’s first feature film since the Netflix film The Story of Fire Saga, which was based on the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020. He recently acted in the black comedy The Shrink Next Door, which was broadcast on Apple TV and starred Paul Rudd.
UTA, Mosaic, and Jackoway Austen represent him throughout his career.
