Exclusive: Taraji P. Henson Gets Ready for the 2020 American Music Awards

Her makeup artist attributes her skin’s foundation-ready appearance to this product.

Taraji P. Henson is not one to take her success for granted. She wears looks rather than clothing. She has had a productive and renowned career. Additionally, Henson is presenting the American Music Awards this year rather than just attending and winning at award presentations. Her makeup crew faced the most difficult creative task because Henson’s hosting position entails not only a red carpet but also hours of nearly continual television time, numerous costume changes, and intricate dance routines.

We caught up with Henson and her regular makeup artist, Ashunta Sheriff-Kendricks, as they got ready for tonight’s American Music Awards. Sheriff-Kendricks guides us through the full getting-ready process, explaining everything from the precise eye makeup colour that gave Henson her metallic sheen to the skincare secret weapon that allowed the foundation to blend in so effortlessly.

The Product That Preserves Taraji P. Henson’s Red Color is Available Here Her Hairstylist reports that Sheriff-Kendricks and the crew made skincare a top priority as they prepared Henson’s skin with a trio of Alpyn Beauty products to create a smooth and hydrated pre-makeup canvas. The Alpyn Beauty Wild Huckleberry 8-Acid Polishing Peel ($56), a five-minute exfoliating mask that Sheriff-Kendricks dubbed “a game-changer,” was the first step in the procedure. She then used the Alpyn Beauty PlantGenius Survival Serum ($68), which, according to Sheriff-Kendricks, brightens skin and can occasionally serve as a cosmetics primer. In order to “help plump up fine lines and provide eyes the deep nourishing hydration they need,” she finished by rubbing Alpyn Beauty PlantGenius Line Filling Eye Balm ($62) on with her ring finger.
Sheriff-Kendricks began applying Henson’s glittering, wintry makeup with a smooth, moisturised complexion as a base. Sheriff-Kendricks used a foundation brush to apply Armani Beauty Neo Nude Foundation ($40) in numbers 8 and 10 after using Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Hydrating Primer ($44). Sheriff-Kendricks explains that she used the same approach with Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Concealer ($38) in shade 6.5 under Henson’s eyes, adding, “I used [shade] 8 to lift the under-eye area and 10 to shape the face.”
Before Sheriff-Kendricks applied Armani Beauty A-Line Liquid Blush ($36) in Sangria and A-Line Liquid Highlighter ($36) in Nude, she lightly applied Armani Beauty Neo Nude Fusion Power ($82) in 4 and 8 to seal the foundation and concealer. She claims that she merely applied blush to the apples of her cheeks, whereas Henson’s cheekbones, inner corners, and bridge of her nose are highlighted with highlighter.
With bold cat wing liners and subtle shading to add depth, I wanted to make the eyes the focal point of this look “She says that after applying Armani Beauty Eye Tint Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeshadow in Cold Copper to Henson’s lids, she lined her eyes with a cat-eye winged liner using Armani Beauty Eyes To Kill Liquid Liner in Black ($36). Then, “I lined Taraji’s lips with the Armani Smooth Silk Lip Liner ($30) in shade 7 and filled in to create an illusion of fullness,” Sheriff-Kendricks says. “I used Armani Eyes To Kill Eye Liner Pencil in a brown shade on the lower lash liner and smudged it to create a soft smoke.” “Byrdie is informed by Sheriff-Kendricks. Then, to give the lips a gentle, subtle graduation, I used two shades of Armani Lip Maestro Liquid Matte Lipstick ($30): first, I applied Sospiri all over the lips, and then Tadzio on the interior of the lips.

She blended Palmer’s Coconut Oil ($5.29) and Melanie Mills Gleam Radiant Dust Shimmering Loose Powder ($48) to create a unique hydrating mixture before misting Melanie Mills Hollywood Gleam Setting Spray ($40) over Henson’s face to set everything in place.
