Britain was the first country in the world to give the green light to the Covid-19 vaccine that targets the Omicron form. Reuters says that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK has given the “bivalent” vaccine made by Moderna permission to be used as a booster for adults.
According to a statement from the FDA, their decision was based on the results of clinical trials that showed the booster caused “a significant immune response” against both the Omicron (BA.1) and the original 2020 virus.
The United Kingdom’s medicine watchdog also mentioned an exploratory study in which it was found that the vaccination gave a good immune response against the most common Omicron sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5.
