The UK government teamed with Indian businesses to give 75 fully financed scholarships for Indian students to study in Britain from September to honour India’s 75th year of independence. This is the most fully financed UK master’s scholarships ever offered. Businesses supporting this project include HSBC, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons, and Duolingo.
Chevening scholarships are available for a one-year master’s degree at any British university. The British Council in India offers 18 STEM scholarships for women, encompassing 12,000 courses at 150 UK universities. British Council offers six English scholarships. 75 scholarships will be sponsored by HSBC India, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons, and Duolingo.
The one-year postgraduate scholarships cover tuition, living expenses, and travel. Candidates need two years’ experience. British and Indian corporate and government executives gathered in London for the India Global Forum. High commissioner Alex Ellis called the scholarships a milestone. Nearly 30% of Chevening scholars in India are from smaller cities or first-generation students, he noted.
The “Chevening HSBC Scholarship” encourages young individuals with leadership potential to use world-class educational facilities. Boris Johnson commended the “India/UK Together” programme during his recent summit visit to India. Education is a “living bridge” that connects the UK with India. In the year ending March 2022, the British high commission issued 108,000 student visas to Indians, roughly double the previous year. Chevening is the British government’s international honours programme. India’s Chevening programme has almost 3,500 alumni.
